We are finishing up the first reporting period of the 25-26 school year. On Friday, September 5th, the students will receive their first Progress Report for you to review their progress. We encourage you to continue sending your children to school as we prepare them for success down the road. We love seeing the students daily and cannot wait for more excitement and enthusiasm as our year continues.
Attendance is key to success. We must work together to provide the best opportunity for our children. Please join Thrillshare, as it is a convenient way to communicate with your child's teacher and get useful information as we build our future together.

We are excited to be off to a great start at Port Barre High School this year. Please remember, it is very important that ALL students are present so we can provide them with the best educational foundation to help them reach for the stars. We want them here every day!
I pray this year you feel as excited as I am to be on campus, knowing we are making strides each day to improve for YOU, the community, students, staff, and all stakeholders. We are working tirelessly to create a culture that is safe, inviting, and allows every student to flourish academically and personally.
Louisiana state law sets attendance requirements based on minimum instructional minutes per school year, not per subject. Individual schools and school districts track student absences from specific classes, but state law focuses on the total time a student is present for instructional purposes. Per year (non-semester), students must attend a minimum of 60,120 minutes. If a student misses more than ten days, we must make up that time to comply with state law. Excessive absences can be setbacks that even summer school may not remedy, depending on the number of missed days.
Please make every effort to ensure your student is present at school daily so we can create a school of success and achievement. Every day matters, and of course, ITâS ALWAYS A GREAT DAY TO BE A RED DEVIL!
Thank you for your support.
Coach Mac

Due to the likelihood of thunderstorms and rain on Friday, the decision has been made to move the St. Landry Parish Football Jamboree to Thursday, August 28.

A sportsmanship campaign/notification is required for the beginning of each school year and should be continued throughout the school year. A concern now is the behavior of many of our adult fans.
Parents are expected to:
âą Be positive role models at athletic contests. Your son or daughter will be very aware of your behavior.
âą Be supportive of the coach. The team is the coachâs responsibility, not the parents.
âą Not coach from the sidelines.
âą Communicate with the coach and create a positive, supportive working relationship.
âą Realize that as the coach, he/she is an educator and therefore understands the sport he/she is coaching and the proper behavior for that sport.
âą Remember the primary value of athletic participation is to provide our youth with an opportunity for self-development, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
âą Respect the judgment of the officials and refrain from openly criticizing every call the official makes.
âą Be aware that if a parent conference is desired with the coach, it is highly inappropriate to speak with the coach regarding this at the conclusion of an athletic event. Wait until the next day and call for an appointment with the coach.
âą Understand and respect the different roles of parents, coaches, and officials. Parents should parent, coaches should coach, and officials should officiate, and each should be treated with respect for what they do.
Coaches are expected to:
· Treat players, parents, opponents, and officials with respect.
· Teach and inspire players to love the game and compete fairly and in a sportsmanlike manner.
· Demonstrate by example the type of person he/she wants the players to be.
· Have control of his/her players and command discipline at all times.
· Respect and abide by all LHSAA rules and regulations for his/her sport.
· Realize that as the coach he/she is an educator and therefore understands the sport he/she is coaching and the proper behavior for that sport.
· Monitor the student athleteâs grades (progress reports) and behavior to ensure that the student athleteâs academic performance is at an acceptable level, not only for athletic participation, but more importantly, to meet the requirements for graduation.
· Report any breech of conduct by their athletes to the appropriate school authority. Example: Fighting during an athletic contest. The student will be subject to the appropriate disciplinary measures according to the SLPSB Code of Conduct as well as the schools contract.
Players are expected to:
· Treat opponents with respect.
· Adhere to all LHSAA rules and regulations regarding sportsmanship and participation.
· I fully understand that if the school is fined by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) because of my unsportsmanlike conduct, I must reimburse the school for the total amount of the fine.
· Demonstrate self-control.
· Respect and accept all officialsâ calls and decisions without gestures or arguments.
· Win with dignity, lose without excuses.
· The good of the team always comes first.
· Show respect for your coaches, the oppositionâs coaches and players, and the officials.
· Adhere to all school and team rules.
· Understand that the SLPSB Code of Conduct shall extend to cover all interscholastic athletic contests.
· Conduct yourself at all times in a manner that represents character and sportsmanship, traits that are acceptable in todayâs society.
